Giovanni da Verrazano

In January of 1524,

Verrazano reached the New York shore.

The Italian searched for gold and a passage to China,

He sailed south until he reached Carolina.

Traveled as a pirate throughout the sea,

attacking the ships not belonging to him.

He reached the Caribs and met a tribe,

which killed him there in front of his brother’s eyes.

They just looked at him when he tried to be friendly,

He never knew that they were deadly.
